Cold War Lessons… by students, for students!

Objective: Summarize the factors that contributed to the Cold War, including Soviet expansion in Eastern Europe and the differences between democracy and communism; Describe the policies of containment, the development of the arms race, and the key events of the Cold War.

Tech Objective: Various

Outcome: Students present their lesson plans; Graphic Organizer on page 76

Agenda:

1. Staple or tape the Cold War Lessons Graphic Organizer to page 76 in your notebook.

2. Students will begin presenting their lesson plans on the key events of the Cold War (Arms Race, Space Race, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Berlin Wall), as the other students complete the Cold War Lessons Graphic Organizer.

Homework: Read and highlight Chapter 17 Section 3 “War in Korea and Vietnam” in your textbook and create Cornell Notes on page 77. Due Friday.

**REMINDER** E-Portfolios are due on Friday, June 8. You will have some time in class next week to complete it, but you should be working on it now as well! Don’t know what is required for history? Download the e-portfolio requirements.

Friday, 05/25/07: All-Freshman Field Trip!

Today we will be on an all-freshman class Field Trip to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA.

The schedule:

8:30 Departure from TBA lobby (students who arrive at school after 8:30 must attend classes as scheduled or will be assigned duty with Mr. Love or Ms. Martinez)

9:45 Arrival at Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA

10:00 -12:15 Self-guided exploration and scavenger hunt

12:30 Departure from Battleship Cove (lunch on bus)

1:45 Arrival back at TBA       *Freshman will attend 6th period!

Agenda:

1. Review of the Cold War Lesson Plan Project Requirements; check this week’s homework.

2. Groups will continue working on their Cold War Lesson Plans and materials for their lesson. The lesson plan and materials are due by the end of class  TODAY.  Before turning in their lesson plans, each group will self-assess their work using the Cold War Lesson Plan Group Rubric.

3.  If time, we will watch a 20-minute video on Battleship Cove, as a preface to tomorrow’s field trip.

Homework: Be prepared for ANYTHING for tomorrow’s field trip… bring rain gear and a sweater… and money for souvenirs (if you want them!)

2.      By the end of the class, students will have completed a basic sketch of their lesson and discussed it with Ms. D.
